About the story:

More than thirty years after the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning film writer Callie Khouri reimagines her iconic road movie as a breathtaking new musical — and London is where the world will see it first.

On a whim, Louise (Rachel Tucker, Wicked, Come From Away) invites her best friend Thelma (Amy Lennox, Cabaret, Kinky Boots) for a spontaneous weekend getaway. After an ill-fated encounter with a stranger at a roadside honkytonk, their lifelong friendship is forged into something dangerous and unbreakable. Propelled by an original score from Grammy-nominated artist Neko Case, they set out on a last-chance adventure in a world where every card is stacked against them.

Directed by Trip Cullman and featuring music and lyrics by Neko Case, this wild, hilarious and deeply moving production opens the Young Vic's 2026/27 season — and its story of female friendship, freedom and defiance has never felt more urgent.
