Christmas at The Londoner

Festive decorations catch in the mirrored ceiling overhead, and Leicester Square glimmers just beyond the doors. Inside, time seems to slow to the pace of a second pot of tea. Afternoon Tea at The Stage is a rare kind of occasion, tiered stands arrive with delicate finger sandwiches, smoked salmon and Cornish crab with yuzu crème fraîche, or sweet paprika cured salt beef with pickled cornichons on brioche, alongside warm scones, served with Cornish clotted cream and homemade strawberry preserve, and a choice of two patisseries from the trolley, with a glass of Champagne available to add for those who'd like to make it a little more festive. 

Gather the bigger tables, office parties, the whole extended family, or the old friends who only seem to catch up once a year, and let Whitcomb's do the rest this festive season. The festive group dining menu turns any table into an occasion in itself: three courses and petit fours, served with a chilled glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Brut or a Panettone Negroni. Decadent servings of steak tartare with Oscietra caviar or burrata and grapes start the meal, a ribeye steak or wild mushroom risotto sit at its centre, and traditional miniature mince pies bring the table full circle. With enough courses and Champagne to keep the table talking all evening, it's an easy way to gather everyone in one place this Christmas.

Outside, Leicester Square sits still for once, streets empty on the only day of the year London stops moving. Inside, in the warm glow of Whitcomb's, the day unfolds course by course, a five-course menu running across two sittings, lunch and dinner. A truffle and Parmesan gougère sets things in motion, followed by a butter-poached prawn and lobster raviolo, before a roasted turbot takes the centre of the table. Last of all comes the Whitcomb's Chocolate Royale, finished with 24-carat gold and a warm chocolate sauce poured tableside.
Younger guests are just as well looked after, with a dedicated children's menu running alongside the main event, three courses, from a simple homemade pasta to a molten chocolate fondant to finish.
