Christmas at The Londoner

Fairy lights climb the windows, the air outside turns crisp, and Leicester Square starts to smell faintly of cinnamon and mulled wine. This is Christmas at The Londoner: a festive dining menu at Whitcomb's from the start of November, and on Christmas Day itself, a table waiting at Whitcomb's or up on the rooftop at 8. There's nowhere quite like The Londoner to spend the festive season.

Whitcomb's Festive Dining

Whether it's a catch-up before the year runs out or a full sit-down dinner, Whitcomb's festive set menu meets it halfway. From Monday 10th November to Thursday 24th December, choose two courses for £42 or three for £48, highlights include jamón ibérico croquettes to start, a truffle chicken Milanese to follow, and a crème brûlée cheesecake to finish, each served with a glass of Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs or a Panettone Negroni. Alternatively, opt for the Festive Taste of Whitcomb's, three courses for £65 per person, gambas pil pil, a chargrilled lamb skewer, and a Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, served with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Brut or a Panettone Negroni.

Whitcomb's Festive Group Dining

Gather the bigger tables, office parties, the whole extended family, or old friends who only seem to catch up once a year, and let Whitcomb's do the rest. From Monday 10th November to Thursday 24th December, the festive party menu offers three courses and petit fours for £85 per person, with a glass of Champagne to start the evening off properly. Choose from a steak tartare and Oscietra caviar or a burrata to share, a rib-eye steak or wild mushroom risotto to follow, and traditional miniature mince pies to finish.

Whitcomb's Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve in Leicester Square moves at its own pace, shops shutting early and streets thinning out, while Whitcomb's stays open long into the evening. On the night itself, a four-course menu runs from 5pm to 10pm, £130 per person, a table waiting whether it's a last stop before heading home to hang the stockings or the main event of the evening. Choose from a steak tartare and Oscietra caviar or a plate of linguine alle vongole to start, a rib-eye steak finished with white truffle oil to follow, and a warm tarte Tatin to finish.

Whitcomb's Christmas Day

Christmas Day in Leicester Square is unhurried, presents already unwrapped and nowhere else to be, and Whitcomb's settles into the same rhythm. A five-course menu runs across two sittings, lunch from 12.30pm to 4pm and dinner from 6pm to 10pm, £175 per adult with a glass of Veuve Clicquot included. Highlights include a truffle and Parmesan gougère, a yellowfin tuna carpaccio, a butter-poached prawn and lobster raviolo, and a roasted turbot, finishing with the Whitcomb's Chocolate Royale, poured tableside with 24-carat gold.

A children's menu runs alongside, three courses for £85, Black Norfolk turkey with all the trimmings, corn-fed chicken breast, or a simple gnocchi pomodoro, finished with molten chocolate fondant, mango and caramel mousse, or a sorbet.

Christmas Day

Christmas Day looks different from up on the rooftop at 8, London spread out below and the festive lights of the West End catching under the glass. The a la carte menu keeps its Japanese edge for the day, think robata-grilled A5 Wagyu, maki rolls rolled to order, and The Gr8, a sharing plate of sashimi, tartare and maki that shows off the kitchen at its best. The cocktail list carries the same spirit, from The Wagyu, whisky infused with Wagyu fat, to Dashing, a dashi and Champagne twist on a Gimlet, each one built to match the view.
